The Sifton Family Foundation

The Sifton Family Foundation was founded by Doris and Mowbray Sifton in 1989. The foundation was envisioned by Mowbray Sifton as a vehicle through which Sifton Properties could give back in those communities where the company has enjoyed success.

While Sifton Properties, which was established in 1923, has always  had a lengthy and enviable record of contributing to the communities where it has prospered,  Mowbray Sifton wanted to create a more formal and organized way of making a difference in those communities.

Funding for the Sifton Family Foundation is provided by Mowbray and Doris Sifton, along with other  members of the Sifton family.  In addition, the endowment is supported by Sifton Properties Limited and other generous anonymous contributors.

Governance of the Sifton Family Foundation is in the hands of an eight member board of trustees who oversee the distribution of grants made by the foundation. 

The board of trustees is comprised of four representatives from the Sifton family, two employees representing Sifton Properties and two community representatives.

The Sifton Family Foundation provides grants in the categories of families, youth and children, seniors and persons with disabilities, with a special interest in teen pregnancy.

The board makes grants to registered Canadian charitable organizations in the communities of London, Brantford, Guelph, Mississauga, Waterloo and Kitchener - communities where Sifton Properties has employees.

Grants are made three times a year by the foundation. Our grants made  in 2012 totalled $250,000.

Grants are also made through our  matching gift program  which is open to employees of Sifton Properties. $45,000 was matched in 2012.
