Testimonials

“Thank you for the wonderful care you provided for Joan Gleeson, our mother, grandmother and great grandmother.

She loved her stay at Lanark Place and always had wonderful things to say about everyone’s caring ways and hospitality.

Thanks for making her last years very special and for the love that fills your building.”

“My mother suffered a stroke in the summer and entered a rehab hospital after ward.  Mom made great progress during her 8 week rehabilitation period.   After 8 weeks, the doctor, resource nurse and occupational therapist decided that the best place for mom was a retirement home.

My sister and I felt very comfortable with this decision and set out to find a retirement home that had a vacancy and would fit mom financially.

Lanark Place was the 3rd home we toured knew immediately that it was the right fit.  You could instantly sense an empathetic, caring, nurturing and welcoming environment.  The feeling that we picked up on was that each resident is treated as an individual who will be treated with respect and dignity and their needs will be met to the absolute best of Lanark's ability.  We felt like the staff would care for our mother as though she was their own family member.  My sister and I were very comfortable with our choice to place mom there.

Our mom came to Lanark Place with a bit of trepidation and reluctance but is now thriving and enjoying a wonderful quality of life.  We have found everyone at Lanark to be friendly, caring, and warm.  The food is fantastic which is stimulating my mother's appetite.  Mom lost 40 pounds in 3 months due to her health and it is great to see her eating again.

We just cannot say enough good things about Lanark Place.”

“In November 2008, my dad, Albert, suffered a stroke and spent six weeks in St. Mary’s Hospital. Mom and Dad, both 91, had been living in their country home near New Hamburg. While my dad was in hospital, I moved in with my mom, Julia, and soon realized how much her health had deteriorated. Community Care sent a nurse to evaluate my mom’s health and recommended that she be evaluated at Grand River Hospital (Freeport). During this time, my husband spent much of his time at the hospital and we realized that my mom and dad would not be returning to their home.

We had heard many good things from close friends who had parents residing at Lanark Place. After checking out a retirement/nursing home in New Hamburg and making calls to other facilities, we decided that we wanted to have my mom and dad well-cared for in a retirement residency near our home.

Our first meeting at Lanark Place was with Dominique, who upon seeing the stress and anguish in my face, embraced me and then gave us a tour of Lanark Place. She introduced us to Nancy Douglas and Karen Church, the Wellness Manager. We were impressed with the spacious dining room, the friendly staff, and the many areas for social events and relaxation.

When my dad was discharged from the hospital, Dominique and Nancy had a room prepared for his arrival. One month later, with the help of Karen Church, my mom was released from Freeport Hospital and accepted at Lanark Place. Nancy approved the construction effort to create adjoining rooms so that my mom and dad could be together again. When mom passed away in June 2009 a new single room was made available in the south wing for my dad.

My husband and I are very grateful to Dominique and Nancy for all their efforts to make a difficult transition much easier.

With three well planned meals a day, a resident nursing staff, a doctor and friendly staff, my dad has adjusted to his new home and is participating in social events. “Nancy’s Trivia” is one of his favourite mental challenges.”

“I am very pleased with the level of care here at Lanark. A few years ago, I came to Lanark for a short term stay while I was recovering, so when it was time to move into a retirement home permanently, there was no other choice: I chose Lanark, just because of the care I received. I also like the convenience of having the In House Doctor take over my care needs.”
